âI met your mule today,â Jingles admitted, then raised both hands when Shane looked at him sharply. âI just said hi, buddy. Thatâs it.â
âGood. I need herâŠfor now.â
Cautiously Jingles scanned the room, then turned back. âLook here, man. You got your mules, and you got the hook in âem. That method works, and I use it, tooâŠbut eventually they ainât gonna be reliable enough to make deliveries. Too much risk to both our organizations. Know what Iâm saying?â
He knew exactly what Jingles was getting at. âI expect them to quit at some point.â
âYeah, but theyâre still a risk to your club. I mean, what happens if one of them gets clean, or finds religion, or gets busted? You and your club could find yourselves in court or, worse, in another jail cell.
âI got a better solution. Sell them to me.â Jinglesâ expression was serious. âIâll take them off your hands, and I guarantee theyâll never be a threat to your organization in the future.â
âIs that right?â Despite the fact that he knew the black man was trustworthy, Shane couldnât help sneering just a little. âFor argumentâs sake, say Iâm interested. How could you guarantee they wouldnât be a risk? You gonna babysit them?â
âIn a way,â Jingles conceded very quietly. âListen, I have another side of my business where these girls could be put to good use. Itâs extremely profitable, and Iâll take care of any disposals.â
Silently Shane considered his offer. It would definitely solve his biggest problem, because Jingles was rightâsooner or later the girls would be too hooked on Meth to be useful, and theyâd become a security risk. Meth always took over. No exceptions. And since the club wanted to avoid simply murdering them, they were a loose end he hadnât figured out how to tie off yet. This would be both painless and profitable.
âHow much?â
Jingles hid his satisfaction behind a casual smile. âWell, letâs take the mule I met this afternoon. If you were interested in selling her today, Iâd go as high as $50k, cash on delivery. Man, she just looks like a walking, talking good time.
âThe girls I buy from you will either work for me, or Iâll sell them to buyers overseas. In most cases, theyâll start by working with higher-end clientsâŠbut eventually weâll move them to the street. They wonât stay in one place for long, for a variety of reasons, and weâll manage their drug use as much as possible.
âSooner or later,â he admitted, glancing at Shane, âthey reach a point where their expenses outweigh their income. When that happens, we sell them to organizations in other countries, and those girls never return. Itâs one of our stipulations. Less profit that way,â he added, cautiously glancing around again, âbut I still make money, and the girls still disappear.
âOnce in a while, a girl like Crystal comes along, and my overseas clients will buy her immediately. It doesnât happen very often,â he conceded, leaning back on the bench. âBut when it does, the chick brings a really high price.â
Shane softly whistled. âAnd once theyâre out of the country?â
Jinglesâ eyes hardened. âYou donât want to know,â he said firmly.
